"Resource is already in English or has an English translation" error when translating
Last updated: September 25, 2026
If you see "Resource is already in English or has an English translation" when translating a transcript that is not in English, this article explains why and how to fix it.
Why you're seeing this error
The file was transcribed with English selected as the spoken language, instead of the language actually spoken in the recording. CoLoop therefore treats the file as already being in English and can't translate it.
How to fix it
Open the file, click the three dots and choose Re-do transcription.
Select the language actually spoken in the recording (for example German, French or Chinese).
Tick translation into English.
For several files, select them and choose Redo Transcription, then pick the original spoken language.
Once it finishes you'll have both the original-language transcript and the English translation.
Before you re-do the transcription
Re-transcribing a file removes any segments you added to it manually. Make a note of them first so you can add them back, or re-import your recruitment grid from Segments & participants (download the template, fill it in and upload it).
Avoid this next time
When you transcribe, always set the language to the language spoken in the file, not the language you want to translate to, and tick translation into English.
Still stuck?
If the spoken language was already set correctly, contact support@coloop.ai with the file name.
